WeBuild Concord Homeowners Are Getting Younger!

Average WeBuild Homeowners Go From 46 to 32 Years Old – 8 Years Younger Than the National Average

Concord, NC – According to the National Association of Realtors, the median age of a first-time homebuyer in 2025 is 40 years old, up from 38 years old in 2024. The median age of all homebuyers, including repeat buyers, is 59. WeBuild homeowners include people of all generations. However, WeBuild’s new owners are going against the national trend. In 2025, the average owner and those under contract are just over 32 years old, a decrease in age of 14 years. Just as important, over 62% of the nonprofit’s homeowners are under 30. The trend is providing a new sense of hope and energy for the mission and the communities it serves.

“Our staff feels a renewed sense of pride and energy that comes with helping young people achieve their dreams, who often feel there are no opportunities for them,” says Dr. Patrick Graham, CEO of WeBuild Concord. “We empower people across generations. This recent trend does bring smiles in our staff meetings, because we know wealth building and economic mobility at earlier stages in life is so important to the future of neighborhoods.” The recent trend may be about good old-fashioned outreach.

Over the past 8 months, WeBuild has launched outreach efforts to employers across the region. The effort is paying off. New owners and those under contract represent large and small area employers, including Atrium Health, Eli Lilly & Co., Progressive, Novant, GW Liles Construction, and a host of other companies in the education, technology, health, civil service, and other fields. The result has been younger owners who are needed in aging communities with lower ownership rates.

The average age of homeowners in the Lincoln Street Townhomes, the largest community development in the Logan Community of Concord in over 50 years, with an ownership rate below 40%, is just over 33. The latest three purchase contracts include buyers ages 22, 26, and 27. “Homeownership means a lot to me,” testifies Lincoln Street Townhome owner, Lexia White, age 29. “It means stability for my kids. It means generational wealth. It’s an investment that pays it forward for not only me, but for my kids’ future.”

“We spoke with several communities about introducing younger families into their neighborhoods to foster economic and social mobility,” explains Dr. Graham. “We are beginning to see that promise create the present and future we desire.” WeBuild is getting younger.
