WeBuild Concord Welcomes 31 Residents to New Homes Amid Strategic Growth
Eight households were approved for ownership and rentals this month, accounting for 31 adults and children. They included families escaping domestic violence, living in hotels, doubling up with family, and two working grandmothers who will own a home for the first time. “With the help of new team members, we have been able to increase our outreach,” says Dr. Patrick Graham, CEO. “Our primary goal is to increase housing stock. However, we deal with unmet social issues that demand our attention, and all of these people are working.” WeBuild has been intentional about its approach to growth.
First, WeBuild developed a new rental and deposit program that makes it easier for renters to get into homes. Second, a new board-approved down payment assistance program has proven to benefit vulnerable first-time homebuyers. These initiatives, increased capacity, and working with employers help the community. Four of the placements were direct employer referrals. The other four came from other residents and partner agencies.
While the growth is positive, it does come with a price. “We are subsidizing a lot of the ownership and rentals to give people a chance,” says Graham. “I hope this year’s Annual Meeting and Breakfast (insert a link to the last newsletter) will spark new donations and philanthropic energy for an organization with a systemic approach to the housing crisis.”
